Vintage Portuguese Bracelet Royal Coat of Arms 833 Silver 7" Mid Century Jewelry

Overview:

Chic vintage Portuguese bracelet crafted in 833 silver (circa 1940s to 1950s). 

The bracelet highlights repeating links depicting the Portuguese Royal Coat of Arms, a design that is deeply associated with Portugal's monarchy and national identity. The crown at the top is a royal crown, representing the Portuguese monarchy before the republic was established in 1910. The central shield contains the famous five small shields (quinas) arranged in a cross. Each of these small shields bears five dots (bezants), symbolizing the five Moorish kings defeated by Portugal's first king, Alfonso Henriques, according to legend. Surrounding the shield is a border of decorated castles captured during part of the Reconquista and later becoming part of Portugal's royal arms.  

The bracelet is in good condition with patina evident. We have not cleaned the bracelet in order to preserve the patina and collector value. 
The piece was acquired on a recent trip to Portugal, one of Europe's most exciting destinations for discovering exceptional antique and vintage jewelry.
