Finely detailed antique Victorian (circa 1880s to 1900s) conversion necklace, crafted in 14k rose & yellow gold.

Originally a Victorian brooch, now converted to a necklace. Halley's comet is one of the most famous comets. It is a 'periodic' comet and returns to earth about every 75 years, fascinating generations for centuries. The imagination of jewelers and designers has been captured over the years. In Victorian times brooches were a popular style to mark the occasion, made in many metals with real and faux gemstones and in many configurations. This one has a particularly elaborate design with the larger star to the front and the smaller stars tailing at the end.

The chain was added to both ends of the comet allowing it sit in an east-west configuration on your neck.

The necklace is in excellent original condition.

Stones: The comet is set with 4 x 1mm seed pearls, one approx. 0.02 carat ruby and one approx. 0.04 carat emerald.

Size & Measurements: The necklace measures 17 1/2 inches. The comet measures 1 3/4 x 1/2 inch.

Metal & Hallmark: 14k rose & yellow gold. The comet is not hallmarked though it has tested positive for 14 karat gold (the comet is rose gold). The chain is hallmarked "14k".
